What Is Packaging Net and Where Is It Used?
An in-depth technical analysis of extruded polymer netting, warp-knitted mesh bags, and protective sleeving across agriculture and industry.
Understanding Modern Packaging Netting
Packaging net is a high-performance, lightweight, open-aperture containment medium manufactured primarily from thermoplastic polymers such as High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP), and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE). Unlike solid film wraps, netting features an engineered grid of intersecting strands that provide structural load-bearing capacity while maintaining up to 90% open surface area.
Primary Extrusion & Knitting Technologies
There are two principal manufacturing processes for polymer packaging nets:
- Continuous Mono-Die Extrusion: Molten virgin polymer is extruded through counter-rotating die heads, forming a seamless tubular sleeve with integral diamond or rhomboid mesh cells. This format is ideal for tubular packaging nets and automatic packaging net rolls.
- Warp Knitting (Raschel & Leno): High-tensile polymer tapes and monofilaments are interlooped on high-speed warp-knitting machines to create heavy-duty bulk vegetable mesh bags capable of holding up to 50 kg.
Key Applications Across Global Industries
Packaging nets are essential across fresh agriculture (onions, garlic, potatoes, citrus, and apples), retail FMCG multipacks (toys, confectionery, and personal care), and industrial parts protection (scaffolding tubes, precision shafts, and gas bottles).
